Lets hope the folks in the 'Q are OK, and the car isn't too bad. As to the others, maybe I don't care anywhere near as much.

It looks like the HQ only got a front side hit so hopefully the passengers were OK. A crash in one of these is no fun though, I had a low speed (me doing maybe 10, other car maybe 40) head on in my HJ ute many years ago and still got cuts and bruises, more damage than I got in my 2010 SR5 Hilux when I was doing 40 and the VZ hit me at maybe 80.

There is a set of photos on YouTube of the remains of the HQ. Quite extensive damage indeed.
Quite a pity.

Assuming both of yours were head on, you were lucky, as the energy involved varies with the square of the velocity. In the second case nearly 6 times as much energy as the first. If you can look past the destruction of the vehicle, modern crumple zones and controlled deformation of the structure do work.

HJ was dead head on with a Renault Feugo, Hilux essentially RH front headlight with the LH front guard and wheel of a VZ, VZ lost control and spun and hit me on the way to a power pole.
Afterwards I said to my mrs that I was glad I was in the Hilux and not in my HJ Premier. The curtain airbag saved my head from whacking the roof/door as initial impact saw both front airbags go off, as the crash wasn't dead on mine spun anticlockwise and his spun clockwise and the sides of the cars then came together seeing the side airbags deploy. My head went out the window and the airbag smacked me on the left ear! You could see the impression the VZ's left rear wheel made halfway up the RH rear door on the Hilux as it must have left the ground.

Yes, it isn't nice when things leave the ground. Here's what happens when the thing is a 5.5 meter boat that comes off a trailer going the other way. No airbags went off, I just ducked when I saw it coming.
