I mean what number in the production run of 5,450 de Villes, could mine be number 35 or 67 or 4325?

Ok so it raining and I am bored and the WB is at the mechanics!

Model WB8W519
Body No. 526031 - A

Simple answer, no.

Longer answer as to why:

The body numbers were assigned effectively sequentially to production, regardless of model, variant, and body style, so you'd have a mix of commodores & any other cars built at Adelaide amongst those numbers.

Chassis numbers, whilst also assigned sequentially, included all trim levels & body styles, so even if WB Chassis numbers were sequential on their own, you wouldn't have the commercials & Caprices separated out, so you'd never know where your DeVille sat amongst other DeVilles.
Cheers,

Mick

The only way you could do it would be how they did the LE's, ie find them all in the Service/Warranty records and assign them a build number. However that is really only a token thing anyway as some are missing out of those records and they weren't completed in PSN order - in fact LE's are probably the worst of the lot in that regard. Elizabeth WB records would be even worse - you'd have to go through the whole of WB records, find them all and sort them by completion date which would still not be correct as some would be missing and sometimes the completion date is skewed if they were damaged or failed some test and got delayed. To make matters worse no-one has ever found any service/warranty reports post mid 1978.
In the end no-one would bother! It is only in the past month or so that someone actually did this and counted 5.0L LX SS, and that is only around 600 or so, and it takes forever. Think of the most boring thing you can imagine, add in full concentration required and multiply that by 10 - it is that time consuming, eye straining and mind numbing it isn't funny!
