i just had the sender(petrol)replaced with a new reco,still reading back to front,any help would be great.example when its full it reads empty then half way-1/4 way it reads full,on a gts hq 2 dr 1971,thank you in advanced.cheers.

Is the dash original? Was the sender you bought for an early or late HQ? You either have an early dash and a late sender or vice versa. If it is a late HQ sender, take it back and get an early one or the other way around.

thanks dave,i filled the tank up,and it seems to be working,its on full,hopefully it moves down after driving a while,fingers crossed.cheers sam

i exchanged the petrol sender in tank,i have done about 30ks hasnt moved yet,anyway we will see if it moves in the next couple of days. the gauge was working well,thanks dave.

As the float often gets worn marks in it from the arm it floats off, hence when full will sometimes the gauge will over read due to the float being stuck on the arm and not actually floating. Mine does this and sits on full for ages and then tears throug |

Even with the generally high fuel comsumption of an HQ Holden, you will be hard pressed to get the fuel gauge to move in 30 k's :-)
Give it a hundred k's or so and see how it goes. When it gets down to about ½ or ¾ on the gauge, fill her up and see whe
