I have just put 13 x 7 Magnum Eliminator (Jelly Bean) period mag wheels on my otherwise standard HR Premier (186 power glide) with 205/60 (back) and 195/60 (front) tyres as these were the tallest profile I could get for 13" wheels with these widths. The car now looks a bit out of proportion for my taste and I am considering lowering it to rectify this. While I'm at it I was wanting to improve the handling a bit as well. I was thinking 1 1/2 or 2 inch at the front and 1 inch at the rear. Can I lower the Prem legally? If so, would I need to replace the shocks if I bought lowered springs front and rear? I want to do this right so would only use reputable brands etc. I would put stiffer sway bars front and rear as well at the same time. I would like to do any modifications without any drilling and/or structural changes as I would want to be able to take the car back to original if I ever had to sell it - hope that never happens. Your comments and advice is greatly appreciated.

2-inches at the rear & an inch at the front will make it look like a roller skate & it will handle like one too.
An inch all round is more than enough, without destroying the ride quality of your Prem. Add a rear sway bar & some good shocks & you will have improved it.
Too low will look stupid & become a copper/defect magnet.

If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0 |
