I doubt very much that Holden have ever built any LHD Commodores prior to the VT series. Do you have any more info ? You could build one using Opel bits, the only difficulty would be engineering a rack. Dr Terry Edited by user Tuesday, 6 October 2015 8:35:26 PM(UTC)

Daewoo Royale for Korea maybe? Holden stamped the panels for them from about 1981 to 1985 per the then current Commodore production. I think they looked more like VB or VC, but they were LHD.

It wouldn't be too difficult to photoshop a mirror image number plate & then reverse the whole photo. AFAIK the Daewoo Royale was much more closely related to the Opel family. The VK grille & bumpers etc. were uniquely Australian. Dr Terry Edited by user Wednesday, 7 October 2015 5:58:42 AM(UTC)

It is most definitely an Aussie (or Kiwi) VK built after March '85. The exterior & interior trims confirm this - they are unique to Oz. Opel stuff by '84 went to the rounded corner headlights & integrated plastic bars - very different to our local stuff, and if you look at the rear pillar, that's an Aussie VK pillar, not an Opel one (they are different in their profile & glass shape when you compare them).
It has simply been mirror imaged - they fixed it up with a bodgy numberplate (look at the night shot - it's probably a reverse image plate in real life, so it looks correct when flipped) but they didn't fix the glaringly obvious error: Look at where the "Holden" badge is on the top grille slat - it's on the wrong side of the grille! If you look real close you can just about make out the Holden lion on the wrong end of it too.

from 28:31 on I considered mirroring but did not consider a reverse mirrored numberplate. I looked at the SL grill top slat Holden nameplate but could not makeout the lion/reversing. I did not know if the grill top slat Holden nameplate should/could have been mounted on the passenger side of a LHD. Australian director, looks like Australian vegetation, missmatched car to period (1983 American cars could have been hard to find). More than likely edited and mirrored. Quite an elaborate continuity trick considering it was made for USA TV, and that audience wouldn't pick anything. Damn, I though I discovered something! Forum myth averted Thanks Mick and Terry

I seem to remember a similar reverse image LHD car thing earlier this year, made for either US or Canadian TV, involving an HJ or HX made to look like a Chev, Wasn't it on oldholden or something ?

Another nail for the coffin: At 28:53 you can see the rear shot - the boot badges are transposed, and the LH side of the rear bar is devoid of a cutout for they exhaust outlet.... As we know, the V-car platform, regardless of LHD/RHD or country of manufacture, always had the exhaust down the left. |
