Because we don't care about it? Personally I have no interest in it, and couldn't name more than a handful of players other than league converts either way.

I believe it's even lower than that, with cricket and horse racing also ahead.
No one cares, and even more so in Victoria.

Those are average crowds though, and some of the suburban grounds that league matches are played at can hold as little as 5000, like the matches in Bathurst and other country towns. Belmore, Kogarah and Leichardt hold far less than 20,000. If you want to compare crowd numbers look at games at Suncorp, traditional rivalry games at Allianz or the SCG, But look at TV audiences in Australia, that is your best indication of bums in seats.

I don't watch much of it anymore either Terry, mainly just League State of Origin and finals or if it is on in the background otherwise. League has become boring and too "by the book" with video refs. When I was preparing/cooking dinner last night I had the Rooster V Bulldogs game on. Roosters in no way deserved to win but they lost by 12 points, and had 2 x tries disallowed by technical rulings which were ridiculous and resulted in both cases in penalties to the Bulldogs. Plus the Bulldogs should have had a player in the sinbin for 10 minutes for a blatant professional foul (pulling a player out of the play) yet the rules state that the video ref can't intervene unless it is a reportable (to the judiciary) offence - yet the Roosters get a try disallowed because a Bulldogs player deliberately runs in front of a Roosters chaser to block his path and gets knocked over. No wonder the game is losing fans.

As for the other three codes - Union, AFL and Soccer - they to me are simply boring (on TV at least). Of the three codes I have been to one AFL match live at the MCG, Melbourne V Collingwood. The atmosphere was great but the game was a boring spectacle that dragged on for way too long - and the damn thing ended in a draw. All fans that I saw other than the p!ssed ones walked away solemn and with their heads down. That same year I watched the Grand Final on TV mainly as I'd been to a game that year, and the Swans were in the GF. It was a draw too. Stupid game was my response and have never taken any interest since!

I agree, League has got very boring but still not as boring as Soccer or Rugby for me. At least I can watch a good game of League. Bit like V8 Supercars, boring as batsh!t but has good ratings?!

Shame you lost Wests, I used to sort of follow Wests and Newtown as alternates to the Roosters, and like other Wests, Newtown and Norths supporters I get you'd lose interest. I'd much rather they'd axed Manly and kept Norths after the Northern Eagles folded. At least Newtown is still going strong and a feeder club to the Roosters, and Wests and Norths are still around in lower grades. This decade has been good in one way as a Roosters supporter - I waiting 20 years to see them in a Grand Final again after 1980, and they've been in the most or equal most Grand finals since: 2000, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2010 and 2013. But I think being a Cowboys or Broncos supporter will be a good thing this year - the rest are making up the numbers other than maybe the Sharks.
