As the heading states, how did the bench seat come about in these models? Was it special order? What about the handbrake position? Curious as a friend sent a pic of one which i can say i have heard of it but never seen one in the flesh Paul. |

The LC and LJ Torana were available as a 6 seater option , 6 cylinder 4 door models only.
The handbrake was mounted under the dash similar to the HK HT and HK models .
I have only ever seen a small handfull of 6 seater ones in my life time so i think that is was quite a rare option .

Yes, as LC870 has said, the front bench seat option (PO no. A52) in LC/LJ was quite rare & only available for 82369 (4-door S 6-cyl) & 82569 (4-door SL 6-cyl) models. I've noticed that, for whatever reason they were for more commonplace in LCs, especially 69/70 models. I've owned 2 of these, both early LCs & I've only ever seen 1 LJ example. The under-dash handbrake comes from underneath the centre of the dash & sits exactly where a factory radio would sit, so if you optioned car radio with PO A52, it would be need to be mounted under the glovebox, closer to the passenger than the driver.
