Hi everyone I'm new to this forum. I've had an old Cleveland under the bench sitting with a few others. I'm not even sure if it's a 302 or 351 haven't measured the strok. It has an wired engine number this engine is untouch hasn't been ground or any thing the engine number doesn't have jg at the start just 66 and a few more numbers after it. It also looks like it was black from factory. Any info would be great. Cheers.

Black block and heads ? silver rocker covers ?
You can tell a XC XD XE 4.9L to a 5.8L by just opening the secondary's all the way and look down into the intake manifold, the 4.9L has a stupid looking bit that juts out and the 5.8L is as normal and with the heads you can tell by looking at the front of the engine passenger side head where it sits to the deck of the block, it's hard to explain but their are indentions along the bottom of the head 3 for the 4.9L and just 1 for the 5.8L.

If Your block is not stamped well it may have JG or JH at the start and then starting with the numbers 66 that will mean it's a GT Coupe engine and then you will have 2 letters follow that and that will tell you what year and month the car it was in.
So it should be a blue engine with 66.
So it should be JG66 and followed by 4 letters the rest of the number mean nothing.
