I've been reading the new interest in the Hg trim code thread and didn't notice any reference to a 14G interior code.the original thread started before I joined the fun. My Hk Kingswood wagon, with its original 307,p/glide,2.78 lsd banjo has an interior trim no. 1175-14G. Ben at VPR informed me it meant Bayou + Locarno Blue trim combo. Does the G mean inserts for the bench seats. front and back seats are kingswood stitched with main vinyl and inserts which aren't velour or brocade. how often would've Kingswoods been fitted with inserts?

14G is a Kingswood trim code, I think most of that HG trim code discussion was about Brougham. HK trims changed a bit prior to Brougham/Monaro/GTS release hence why code letters got as high as they did in Brougham (K,L,M,N). Yours should be a first half of 1968 car? Funny you should ask this too, saw a photo last night of an 1166-14G (Mako Blue with the same trim as your) HK Kingswood. It was a Perth assembly example.

They weren't that common, but they were a 'normally' available option. From my recollection it was more often seen in Premiers.

The nylon cloth used in HKs was called 'Castillon Weave'.

I'm not sure whether 14G was available in all 3 front seat styles, but the parts catalogue does list it that way. However parts catalogues are often not that reliable for such data. Byron may have more on that.

HK trims are a dog's breakfast, every letter of the alphabet was used. They started out with the same trims as HB, and seem to roughly have allocated A-D to Belmont, E-L to Kingswood etc. Once Monaro, GTS and Brougham are released they are allocated codes. When HBII is released they change again. At release HK Kingswood were normally E for all vinyl or G for inserts so 14E was straight vinyl and 14G was inserts. The problem though is when the trims changed cars still were made with the old trims, so there is months overlap aof for example 14X after 14Z release. Seeing 14G on a heavily loaded car like yours is not surprising, someone has ordered it like that. The Perth assembled HK with 14G trim I saw the plate for last night was probably a 1/68 Elizabeth body, and it has then been assembled in Mosman park. It may have been a dealer demo with some of the optional HK features like trim inserts, 186, discs, all synchro box etc.
Note that the different trim codes for bench and buckets doesn't exist in HK, I think it is HG those start and then possibly only on Belmont IIRC.

Funny that you mention dealer demo because when I bought the car from its third owner he stated that it was originally owned by a dealer rep who ordered it with the 307,powerglide,power steering, delux heater/demister, seat inserts and rear dust deflector which is the painted one not the alloy aftermarket one. He then dealer fitted front and rear mud flaps and the delux eleven radio,i found the blanking plate for the radio under the front seat and the radio has the reg no. scribed on the top of the case. It also came with the short over riders on the rear springs and gear lever lock, which I don't know if they're factory or dealer fitted. He also said that the GTS hub caps were dealer fitted but that one i'm not to sure about so I changed them to standard caps. Unfortunately the third owner also misplaced the original books so I can only go on what he says and what i'm finding out on the way.
When I rebuilt the motor a year ago I discovered that it had the baffled sump as well.

It will almost certainly be a retail or dealer order, GMH wouldn't build a Stock order like that. Shame about the books, my Premier lost its books too when removed by someone.
