Jack, I'm not fortunate enough to have the first issue HK parts catalogue, or its amendment, so I'll take your word for it.
The 7449997 wasn't invented until early 1968, (by Bob Watson, I believe) so I assumed wouldn't have made it into the first issue parts catalogue. That particular spring is for Monaro GTS only, so wouldn't have been used until June 1968.
For HK it was used on V8 GTS cars, and on 6 cylinder GTS with air conditioning.

Geoff, Sorry respond, I've been out of the loop for a while.You were interested in some numbers a while back, on my car. Heres a few that could help. Big Tag,00161 SS. Small Tag;xx325. 1st type eng. (660 Cast.) Number in very low 14xxx, 290 0ne Hump Heads. Steering column,Steering Box & outrigger numbers all between 10 & 21 st August. All cast # on motor, gearbox & diff are on or before 4-4-68. A Bit of history also. I bought the car off the original owner 1n Sept. 1979. He told me the car was 1 of 4 car that originally came to Canberra as Demo cars. 1 for each colour and motor & gearbox combinations. It stayed on the showroom floor till was sold in late nov. 68. I ended with the yellow one. I think the Blue 186s maybe still be here in Canberra, alive and well. There are dozens of other stamps, crayon and stencil numbers that I have discovered.
