Looking at a car thats come up. Things arent binding for me. Hk monaro Car has been modded over the years to a degree. Driveline wise. Open to knowing what the tags and chassis numbers mean. There is only chassis number and big tag. No small tag. Is that an issue? Second does the tag on it match the chassis number? Is there a way to tell? I know about the speedo cable hole for v8 or 6. But not know which hole im looking at. Motor is out. Can someone post a pic with the hole in question. Cheers. Okay chassis number is HK23###M Big plate i have.... Body- HK80737-23127M Trim- 1153-18X Paint- 587-1764 Any help on whether this is a monaro poverty pack, gts6, gts307, colour and trim. And whether this big tag is right for the car. Do i need the small tag or is it now known as a no tag car? Much appreciated. Greg

Hi Greg , I am not the expert on HK but some info for you , 80737 is Monaro GTS 186 or 307 ( speedo hole will help I.D ) Made in Melbourne, Colour is Bright Blue Metallic with Buckskin Beige trim . you should have big and small tags for a genuine Monaro. Thanks Mark. |

Mark has answered most of your questions, but no-one is going to know anything about numbers with #'s replacing the actual numbers! |

Will find out for you. That is the chassis number, not the VIN and will normally have another M under the first M however B, S, A or even P is possible but highly unlikely. VIN will look like 80737KJ if the chassis is MM........ but I think you said the VIN plate was missing. You’ll have to go looking for telltales whether it is standard GTS or whether optioned with V8. The V8 car will have two speedo cable holes, and most V8 fitted GTS built past the end of July 1968 will have had a Salisbury rear axle fitted so the clearance hump will be there, however there will be the odd V8 auto car with a banjo. Unless it is a super rare 6cyl GTS optioned with M21 or M22 a 6cyl car will only have the one speedo cable hole in the firewall. Edited by user Friday, 8 June 2018 10:41:59 AM(UTC)

The chassis number does have the second M under the end one.

The guru says the body plate belongs to the chassis number. |
