Hi all , we were talking about replacing the mighty 2003 Astra convertible ( save the jokes ...wife likes it ) so thought id see how much a new Holden Cascada is and its not on Holden NZ site or Aussy ..must be another dead model ? I didn't hear anything about it being dropped . Must be Holden's new sales policy ...less models will sell more cars ??? Thanks Mark. |

Shows you how interesting newer Holden stuff is to traditional GMH fans! I had never even heard of the Cascada, I had too Google it to find out what it was! The newest ones for sale on Carsales are 2016. Wikipedia says it was discontinued here over a year ago. Some really cheap low kM examples for sale on Carsales. |

Yeah, the Cascada is an old model in 2018. It was released in Australia in Apr/May 2015 & was based on the PJ Astra, which finished in Aust in 2016. They were first seen in Europe in 2013. I believe they still build them in Europe, but you'll probably find that GM-H had sold all they had planned & discontinued it. Convertibles have historically never been all that popular in Aust. An interest trend is that while they are comparatively more expensive than the equivalent Hatch when new, they are usually cheaper on the used car market due to demand. It's not just Astra convertibles, it's the same with Peugeots, Renaults, VWs, Audis, BMW, MINIs etc. etc. In Australia they either let in too much sun or rain for most people to be bothered with. When the top is up, being black (mostly) they absorb even more heat, not good in summer. Probably more suitable to more temperate climates, like the UK, France or Germany. One of the biggest issues will be the supply of spare/ crash repair parts for any imported car if it has low sales. Would you risk buying a car these days unless it is a proven seller and you can get reliable servicing and parts.
GMH are fighting a losing battle to retain customer loyalty in a market that has so many brands and variants to choose from. Watching the monthly sales figures shows the slowing of sales for GMH as the battle hots up for the elusive dollar.The Chinese are pushing more and more as they get better at building cars. Even Honda is fighting back with 7 year warranties. It has certainly changed the landscape in the car yards.

I just had a look though a few Holden dealers stock in NZ , you can still buy a Director or a Motorsport ( NZ$85,000} one dealer has 10 SSVs in stock & 6 pre-regoed Poozes. another dealer is showing a Craptiva LS driveway at $42,990 , but the "so called run out" Craptiva is being advertised at $29,990 ? I did find 1 pre-regoed Cascada , so maybe last one left in NZ . All dealers have lots of ZBs . I have driven ZB its good but no excitement , will just have to keep our 2007 SSV manual a bit longer.
