Might be a question for Mick or Dr Terry.
Last week I spotted a Pontiac nosed VE in the middle of Victoria BC. It was plain white and looked just like a base VE Commodore except for the nose, and it wasn’t a V8. Didn’t get a chance to take a photo but I was close and heard it. What exactly is it? |

These were a Special Edition SS-V, they were made in sedan, ute & Sportwagon body styles. They were released in October 2010 as PO WEH & was a method of using the excess Pontiac G8 panels that were left over after Pontiac was closed down & the export orders cancelled. I misread your post. I didn't see Canada & BC, which I assume is British Columbia.
The car you saw was probably a Pontiac G6, which is just as you describe.
The ones in Australia are full SS-V spec, but only available in Phantom black, Red Hot and Voodoo blue, but the one you saw was just plain white.

G6, I had never heard of it. Heard of G8 but not the 6cyl variety. |

I read a blog some thime back where a Canadian with a VE G6 suffered alternator failure, and he documented the electrical management smarts built into the BCM - how it progressively shut down non-essential consumers to eke the last few mA of power out of the battery. By the time the fuel pump stopped he had no instruments except a speedo, no aircon or blower fan, wipers only worked on 1 (or something like that). Got him many more miles than he thought it would go on just the battery.
I always thought it funny how the subsequent G6 was a piece of junk FWD car, compared to how good the VE based one was.
It's ironic that GM used G6 & G8 for the VE overseas, yet locally Ford had the G6 in the FG, and G8 in the BF Fairlane. |
Cheers,

The G6 was a US-assembled (Lake Orion) front wheel drive sedan built upon the GM Epsilon (Chevrolet Malibu) platform, powered by either a 2.4 litre I4 engine or a 3.5 litre V6 engine. The G8 was an Australian-assembled (Elizabeth) rear wheel drive sedan built upon the GM Zeta (Holden VE Commodore) platform, powered by either a 3.6 litre V6 engine (G8 sedan), 6.0 litre V8 engine (G8 GT sedan), or 6.2 litre V8 engine (G8 GXP sedan).
