Hi All Received the Shannons auction pamphlet in the mail. On the front cover is a white HT GTS 350 Monaro up for sale, estimate is $160-180K. Will it reach those levels and why/not? Cheers Jacko

At a quick glance, there is a few things not right with this HT. Looks like It has standard rims, it has a HG tachometer, master cylinder etc. Also the auto drops the value in my opinion. If I was interested I would be going over it with a fine tooth comb. |

Looks very nice, of course you'd inspect before handing over that coin. I likewise don't see the value in the auto 350.
Brakes and wheels look right to me, but I'm no expert. HG style tacho could be orignal if it is a late HT build (mine has this- tacho date code consistent with car).
Are the boot badges located right? Owner must have liked the black GTS badges, suppose it does suit the colour scheme

It is a 1837 car, rarer than a manual version and will be sought after. In the USA LM1 powered 1969 Camaros are sought after just as much as L48 versions, the HT 350 auto was an LM1, the manual an L48. Given people are paying $100k for modified Monaros and even more if they are GTS's don't be surprised if someone pays the guide price. Is it totally original? No, it looks like it has been kept alive using some non-original bits. As long as the body and tags and engine go together I reckon someone will pay top $ for it. If it was an auto HK V8 GTS in that condition someone would pay $125k for it. I just wish someone would sack whoever it is that edits the text in the auctions, what a load of cr@p some of that is. For example 308 was extremely rare in HT Monaro, even in GTS it was rare. |

The numbers look correct, and fit with Dandenong cars either side of it. The car is known to me from the early 80s, so it seems legit. Quite a few important bits have been substituted (engine manifolds, fan shroud, carburettor, etc) and just about every engine bay bolt is incorrect so that will effect what a purist will pay. It presents well from a distance, but there's plenty of sloppy and incorrect stuff up close eg wrong colour GTS badges, no grille badge, boot badge holes drilled in the wrong location (which begs the question just how bad was the boot if the badge holes needed to be redrilled...?). I think the guide price will be a struggle to obtain from those in the know but they are often not the ones who buy these cars. Lots of buyers don't bother to get these cars checked out properly before the auction fever takes over from rational thought.

I some yesterday to another Fastlane member who said something along the lines of the body would probably need a good makeover, looked like cheap repairs and paint done to sell. Whoever bought it must have factored in decent panel and paint expenditure or buyers were scared off a bit by it. |

Also the back seats, if they had put the hounds tooth trim right up to the top. Then they would have probably got more money for it.
It might have shoddy rust repairs, as most of the cars around our area (Dandenong) acquired rust pretty quickly.

Hi. Interestingly two HT 350 autos about two years ago. If I remember correctly both finished at over $300k. I did hear one found its way back to the seller's garage after failure to finalise. If even one of them sold for that figure then then that makes the Shannon's sale more reasonable....and realistic. Shannons have, over the years been closer to the market than most. Cheers. Nick.
