Are there any on this forum? I don’t think I’ve ever read anything about a valiant here Does there need to be a valiant section?
Slim pickings for ford guys as well Although I can understand the Ford is an inferior product, I would have thought there would be a few more ford guys around

I call them Valiant's or Valiant Chrysler or Valiant Dodge in Australia all tho it's truly Chrysler Valiant I think to be sure because it's the Chrysler corporation but never Mopar as I see that as being like what we call Holden's parts department Nasco. but Holdens were truly General Motors Holden.
All tho in the days before the 1962 Valiant RV-1 they were known as Chrysler. I believe that they are many different company's in fact much like Holden and Chev and Pontiac are all tho we see in Canada some Pontiac had Chev designed engines in them. not to mention that our HQ-J-X-Z and WB Statesman was not claimed as a Holden Statesman.
I would say that the Valiant's were a better car than the Holden and our Falcons from 1962 to 1966 for sure and from then on only the Hemi 6 was their only real advantage or draw card in 6 cyl cars and apart from that they are not up to the Falcons or Holden's. the Charger was the only thing that they really had going for them to look up to as anything special.
Once the XR Falcon came out it was much more advanced than the rest in Sep 1966 with a great 289 V8 and all, then the GT May 1967 and Holden took until Aug 1968 that the HK GTS 327 to make anything worthy of taking the Falcon on.
Not to mention the big cars like Dodge Phoenix and Ford Galaxies and Chev Impala or Pontiac if you want to point them out for what they truly were like and you can't beat a Ford Galaxie as they whip the floor with the rest.
Their was or is a Valiant thing on this forum that I got back in 2007 showing Chrysler history of the Australian Valiant. Hey Charger by Trevor Hedge. must be able to find it here some how.

The Dodge and Plymouth cars in the USA had some wicked mechanicals in them, the 426 Hemi, the 440 plus the pre unleaded 340 was a great engine. Their Torqueflite boxes and Dana rear axles were good too. But we only got a small taste of any of it over here, with the good 340 in VH plus the magnificent Australian Hemi 6. This was really no different to GMH or Ford, only a small taste of the good stuff with the 1969 L48 in HT-HG or the M20 Muncie and TH400 in HQ. We got some taste of Ford good stuff though with the 351ci engines, Toploaders, C4/6 and 9”. Ford did bring in some big cube Galaxies as Castellan says but we never saw any big engined Chevys that in the early 60’s blitzed the competition, just prior to GM’s racing ban. There were some small volume imports of 60’s GM good stuff sold through dealers like Southern Motors but not enough to make a splash. GMH stayed with the 283 and the COPO (police spec) 4BBL 327 in Impala and Parisienne, but no bigger 348 or 409 or 427. We wouldn’t have even had good enough fuel in Australia until the later 60’s for anything designed for US high octane fuel either, like the L79 or L76 327. As it was GMH had to use less total advance on the HT-HG GTS350 manual engines than what was used on the USA L48 engines as Aussie Super fuel had a little less octane than what was widely available in the USA. |

Mopar is definitely the accepted nickname for any car/truck branded under the Chrysler banner. I've had a few vals over the years. Had their pluses at times, but I would suggest that they probably had budget/management problems throughout that led to inferior product overall. If you've worked on/been under one an example of this would be the floorpan. Tunnel still left hook, so driver's footwell small, passenger big. Also translates to engine being closer to driver's side innner guard (try getting to steering box ona slanter or v8). Obviously just used 2nd hand USA pressings.
