G'day guys Going to replace the Wheel bearings in my HX panelvan. Is it worth getting 1 tonner kits with the heavier retainer? Or no real advantage, or just overkill for a shed dweller/weekend cruiser. Id appreciate your thoughts

Thanks for any advice overkill imo I use the std kits on the Salisbury in the race car no problems in nearly 15 years but buy decent kits (no chinese garbage) Edited by user Monday, 20 January 2020 7:45:58 PM(UTC)

Footnote.... Timken wheel bearings were $35 each & about $10 more for the 1 tonner ones. So after the advice on here, I ordered the standard ones, & the next day they turned up & they had the heavy duty retainer in them. Not sure if that was luck, or may only do the 1 kit now. Anyway I saved some money

how did you go ? i have 3.36 Salisbury in my tonner and when i put tonner bearings with the larger retainer on my half shafts the would not go back into the axle housing ( too large diameter ) had to go back to the standard set , same bearing number just different inner retainer ? have noticed a difference in the outer retainer quality / structure in some sets

From memory the retainer is wider not larger. |

Yes, the 1 tonner bearing retainer is wider, but no bigger in diameter
