For those with a better memory than me of the HQ/J/X/Z/WB utes, was there ever a vertical piece of bright work behind the door on the B pillar? I cannot conclusively see it on internet images. I also want to add the belt line trim to the doors of my HQ Ute.
The other thing is that I do not want to drill holes for the clips. For those that have seen the pieces, is it viable to grind off any raised sections and use automotive tape to hold them on?

Kingswood ute. It wasn’t there on Belmont or Holden ute.

There is also a stainless trim horizontal above the door.

Thanks HK1837. I have the gutter trim and will track down the rest. I want to give the Belmont a bit of bling but without drilling into panels.

I think there is two or three mushroom thingies that hold the plastic clips in place that the mould clips to. Same things as what hold the windscreen stainless in place. A panel beater might be able to attach them for you or you used to be able to buy screws from GMH with a phillips cross head but they were the same profile as the weld mushroom posts and did the same job, they were meant for re-attachment of moulds after a panel change.

You can get the pins from Rares, or at least they advertise them. They work like a pop rivet and they are sold as the ones to hold the windscreen trim on.
Only the Kingswood had the vertical trim and its nearly impossible to find.

I found one vertical bright trim and will hopefully find another. A previous vendor I met said he had a pair of horizontal pieces for the Ute B pillar. He said that they were from a ute with a vinyl roof. They were not for sale. I would love a set of those but they must be very rare. My question is, did the utes ever come out with a white painted roof option which presumably would use the same pieces to divide the white roof from the main body colour?

Vinyl roofs were not a factory option for ute, they were available as an aftermarket thing though. The B-pillar trim pieces to suit would also be aftermarket.

Thanks Dr Terry. I will not bother trying to find those pieces if they are not factory. In the same vain I presume that there never was a factory white roof option like in the sedans or wagons?

Yes there was. Two tone was available on HZ M60, M70, M80, N70 and N80 except Sandman. It is not available in HX by the looks of the colour/trim album, however D99 (two tone paint) is shown as available on all HQ, HJ, HX and HZ commercials except Sandman in the POA documents.

Having said that I can't remember the last time I saw one, although have plenty of ID plates for them mainly HZ fleet colours. Lots of images or old Holden utes with white roofs but not newer ones (HK-WB). Old memory but I think the join on utes and tonners was between the drip rail straight across the lead joint area. Vans had a line from the drip rail at the back across to the upper tailgate opening from memory.

Not two tone but look how this tonner has primer on the roof in the attached link, I think this is how they were done. So no moulds.
http://olschoolgarage.com.au/resto-76-hj-tonner-1

Leo Pruneau did do a GTS ute that had a vinyl or two-tone roof mould like a sedan had, but it never went into production. It ended up being re-purposed as the Ewe't.

Edit - just found that a white roof was a CTV on commercials until HZ. It has an option code by Engineering, but Sales blocked it unless it was a CTV (SVO by a dealer). Come HZ it was regularly available to order by Retail, Fleet or Dealer order. Most that I have seen have been fleet vehicles.

That is good to hear HK1837. I think that a white roof on a green body will suit the extra bright work of the gutters, door belt and B-pillar without needing a dividing trim. I have seen bonnet spears for sale, saying that they are suitable for HQ to WB. Is that the case as I am thinking of buying one?

Yes, the two tone paint colour option for commercials was available, usually as a special order for fleets & govt. departments, but AFAIK there was no bright trim piece for the dividing line.

I well remember in the 70s seeing Dept. of Civil Aviation utes & vans at Sydney airport in Aviation Orange with a White roof.

I just remembered, my old HJ Kingswood ute was a white roof car. It was colour combination 1413 which is Jade Green with white roof. It was modified when I bought it, but interestingly enough it was reasonably optioned: L32, M40, LSD, bucket seats, sports dash, intermittent wipers and rally rims. And it still had its original spare wheel under it (which I still have) and that wheel was painted Jade Green Metallic and white. I still have its tags, as it got written off in a head on, it was a 5/76 Dandenong car.

That is interesting information. If necessary to finish it off, I could fabricate a small trim piece. HK1837, were the visible parts of the rims green or white? I am referring to the lips and sections between the hubcaps and trim rings.

These were rally rims, aka Pontiac RallyeII. So no hubcaps.

Not being picky at all, just explaining that these weren’t what was being asked about.

Yes, Rally rims. In the morning rush I missed that in your post. Looking at some brochure pictures I noticed a Belmont HQ with the stainless steel strip along the sill under the doors and another in the tailgate. Probably hard to find.

Scroll down on this link which has pictures from brochures. There are two utes. The one on the hill does not have badges so I presume that it is a Belmont. It has the same trims as the Kingswood. The tailgate strip is on another car on the same link.
