Hi,

Any light shed on my old girl would be appreciated....?

Body Identification Plate

BODY HR239-39458-S
TRIM 1150-F43
PAINT 587-1704
INSERT (blank)
TOP (blank)

Smaller tag

S 110072

Stamped in Firewall

My thoughts are it’s a standard old prem but would love to know if there were any add ons...?

Thanks in advance,

I don't think you can tell anything other than the external paint and trim about a HR from Pagewood off the ID tags. All I can tell you is it is a HR Premier with the body built and painted at the Pagewood BAP, and then assembled at the Pagewood VAP. It's Production Sequence Number is S110072 which is I think the total Pagewood assembly since the start of HD. The exterior paint is Silver Mink (1150) and it is the older paint line as it has 587 as the prefix to its refinish code. Dr Terry might be able to help you with the trim which is F43.

As to the driveline it could be anything available at the time, not sure exactly when yours was built but to get silver mink it must be reasonably late. Standard engine would be 186 with 3spd manual, if it is as late as I think it is it could be optioned with powerglide auto or 4spd manual. The only available engine option would be 186S.

Thanks HK,

I probably should of led with some context….

I purchased wagon mid 90’s as unfinished(unstarted) project in pieces from western Sydney. Seller claimed Prem had been on blocks since ‘78. It came with both 186S and X2 manifold setups and gauges along with a heap of spares. 7 year rebuild and as a young and moronic teen I gave away original block and powerglide to make way for new 192 and supra box. Painted it Gunmetal and yes, Goya(cherry) red interior with rear seat still in plastic. Electric tailgate and all stainless mint.
Rego’d for rare use ‘03 - ‘09 then back to sleep.
It’s time….!
I’m running the twin carb set up but thought the timeline of built might confirm if it was the 186S option as a stab in the dark.
Likely put ‘S’ carbie back on as haven’t had a lot of luck with twins.
I guess I’d need original engine to confirm specifics?
Were Syd ID plated stamped differently to Melbourne builds?

Cheers,

Jim

The only two ways you can tell for sure what driveline it had both involve the package code. On a Dandenong BAP vehicle the code is on the INSERT line of the body tag. On other cars it sometimes is written on the ID Certificate that is inside the Warranty/Service book. It will sometimes appear on the VEHICLE MAKE and MODEL line, but it is dealer dependent. For example it might say HR225M-160-186 or some other unusual combo. The 160 in this case means 186. However if you have the original book for the car it should also list its engine number which will tell you if it was an X2 or S engine. Pagewood also didn't stamp the transmission type in the model code like other plants did.

186P is HK-HG high comp engine. With that serial number probably HT.

186A is HR 186 high comp.

I86P and 186A are essentially identical just dressed to suit HK-HG vs HR. Only internal difference is HT-HG 186P used a 186S camshaft except where Trimatic was fitted. HK and HT-HG with Trimatic used the same cam as 186A. This is why HT is rated 5hp more than HK for the same engine.

Awesome, thanks for your knowledge.

OK so not original engine. There was no real way to know for me as it had already been removed from engine bay when I purchased….

Time to get her back on the road.

Cheers HK1837
