Hi,

I have an old Ford and wanted to up-grade from the original generator to an alternator. This exercise has been recomended by a few people.

I am confused on how to make the up-grade.

Some people I have spoken to have said to install a 1-wire alternator, so I don't have to do any wiring mods.

Some others have said to convert a 3-wire alternator to a 1-wire alternator, so I don't have any wiring mods.

Some have said I need to modify a heap of wiring and install a normal alternator.

Oh, there has been a couple that have recomended I just stay with the generator. The car isn't running any high amp lights or stereo systems...

Thanks in advance...

Go to a reputable Auto Electrician and check out your options with them. You can then make a decission based on cost and practacality.
