Hello all,
I’m new here so apologies if I’m posting in the wrong place or repeating a thread.
My father owned a 1968 Monaro GTS from new. He later left it with a mate to look after while away overseas. The story goes that it was written off in an accident while he was away. Many years later we came to realise that this so called mate was a bit of a con artist and always wondered if the car may have actually been sold not written off.
I’m looking for information on any existing Monaro registers that may shed some light on the real fate of the vehicle. We aren’t looking to recover the vehicle of course, just curious, we also have footage of the car and some history if it is still in circulation. It was a 1968 2 door Monaro GTS we have rego number and might be able to dig up chassis and engine number as well some production details as my father worked at Holden while it was being built. Any assistance would be much appreciated

Really your Dad should have held his mate accountable, either way, written off or stolen the mate owed your Dad. The fact that at the time they were worth nothing is probably the reason why he did not take it further or care. Anyone who has numbers stored is not going to get involved in what might become a dispute over stolen property. As mentioned in original post, we aren’t interested in any sort of recovery of the vehicle. In fact it may have been transferred to friend with a condition that it could be transferred back. It’s just a matter of curiosity and if it’s still around the Current owner might like some photos and history of the vehicle.

All good Bobby, I'm sure your intentions are good, I was just giving you a heads up on why no one may have responded.
I am not a numbers keeper but I know those that are got threatened with legal action and all sorts of jazz recently and are probably (and understandably) wary of giving any info.
Probably best to put a post with your HK numbers and if there is an owner out there they can contact you.
