I am in the process of refreshing my HQ wiper mechanism. I have tended to the motor and now am looking at the linkages. I can buy replacement bushings for all of them except for the mounting unit and shaft that the wiper arms attach to. The driver's side unit is a little stiff, although not very bad. Do they disassemble for cleaning? Any tricks to it? Failing that, I will try and find a good second hand unit.

I'm fairly sure they are not repairable. At a guess the collar is pressed down onto the shaft and held there by spreading the top of the shaft. You could try drilling out the centre of the top and pressing the collar off but it would be a lot of messing about, if it would even work.

What might work on the tight one is to somehow cover it in oil and spin it for 10-15 minutes at a slow speed (use a drill?) to smooth it out and loosen it. Maybe.

Anyway, have fun changing the driver's side one!BigGrin

Thanks 202tonner. I will try and find a less worn unit. Everything is off the car as it is being painted after a fully body and chassis restoration. The installation should be relatively easy?

Ah. In that case the installation is dead easy. When everything is back together it has been included on lists of the worst job to do, very annoying to get at.
