Hi All,
Just purchased a South African HK premier so a Kingswood / Belmont body with all premier options.
Was promised a very clean car but has turned out otherwise so I am stripping it down for a rebuild before it goes back to the road and just wondering if anyone may be able to assist with the body codes, paint codes and trim codes as I cannot for the life of me find anything online to help decode what it is. Plates are located passenger side inside the door well.

I'd like to bring it back to original so having this info would be amazing if anyone can help out!

Cheers Jason

Body Codes: 80369A9S 436618 LAP
Paint Code: SBX
Trim Code: T21

I'm not sure if HHS has all those paint and trim codes sorted yet. Dave Smith at Bellarine or maybe Simon Pinnegar at HKTG Garage might have some info.

Are you sure its a Premier though? The model code is for a HK Kingswood sedan and I thought that was consistent on the South African cars. A Premier has a different body to a Belmont or Kingswood sedan.

Hi mate thanks for the reply bit stumped on this one

The South African premiers used the Belmont body with the Australian Premier front clip and options the Premier shells sent over were rebadged and styled as the Chevrolet Kommando so technically it's a Kingswood / Premier pretty unique will be a one of a kind here hence why I'm persisting with it.

Was part of the CKD program or completely knocked down where all the parts were sent in bulk and then assembled at General Motors Port Elizabeth assembly line

I thought HK were still Holdens over there, and the Kommando etc were HT based?

Note that CKD isn't (AFAIK) bulk parts. CKD is a body pack and a mechanical pack, exactly the same way most cars were made at the Australian plants with a side by side BAP and VAP - a body pack from Woodville and Mechanical Pack from Fisherman's Bend.

I hadn't seen one or if I had I never took any notice, probably assumed someone had just put a Premier subframe on a Kingswood or Belmont. I reckon you shoudl be calling it a Kingswood body with Premier upgrade, as the model code on it says Kingswood!

I'm not surprised they used more straight black interior. Even though the packs came from Australia a lot was locally sourced, I wouldn't be surprised if the black parts were made or at least covered (as in the crash pad) in South Africa to up local content.

Is it an auto or manual? If its a manual I assume its an all-synchro 3spd with that heavy cast iron bellhousing?

AFAIK HK/T/G were sold as both Holdens & Chevrolets thru 2 different dealer networks in SA.

They were but I didn't think there were any Chevrolet badged ones until mid 1969. I always thought all HK were Holdens.

I think that SA production was around a year behind Aust. The HK Chevs were released in 1969 as '69 models, the HT as '70 models & so on.

Also I believe that HK Premiers were fully imported, while the lesser models were assembled locally. This also happened in HR & earlier.

This one can't be fully imported though as it has GM South Africa tags?

Yeah, it's a real mix of models isn't it.

So they probably have 3 different HK Premiers. The locally built one with the Kingswood roofline, the fully imported one & the Chevrolet Kommando LS version.
