Hi all,I have a newly acquired XY,with a 250 cube 6.It has a fully reconditioned stromberg bv-2 carby that has all brand new parts supplied in the carby kit, plus the entire body has been brought back to new.The problem is is has a small flat spot when you accelerate slightly after coasting. It also coughs and splutters when you make a hard right hand turn at low speed but then accelerate hard, like round abouts and street corners.Could this be the float level? It idles smooth and otherwise runs beautifly. If so where would I get a float level gauge?Previously I've had to drop the timing back to about 3-4 degrees(BTDC) to stop pinging under load and at high speed acceleration.Could this be related?

Sounds like you need some dyno time to re-jet the carb and do the timing. This is stop your pinging and possibly your flat spot too. What type of fuel are you running in it? Being leaded is 96RON you should be running premium unleaded or Optimax/synergy/U |

Forgot timing. From memory factory timing is 6deg? You want somewhere between 6-10deg initial advance in it. Brenden XB Fairmont sedan : [email protected] |

Hi Brenden, the factory timing is 6 degrees but even though I use Vortex premium with Valvemaster Plus, which is supposed to be a valve lube and octane booster it pings its brains out.I have another XY 250 set at 6 degees and that car runs happily even on

Can only be jetting or dizzy then? Maybe it's got too much total advance or advancing too fast? XB Fairmont sedan : [email protected] |

Another thing I've just thought of. Do the 250's spin balancers like the carbed Ford v8's do? If so maybe the balancers spun? It's very common on the carbed Ford v8's. XB Fairmont sedan : [email protected] |
