I am attempting to remove gear box to fit a new clutch, and have hit a brick wall with removal of the top bolt through gear box into block.
I cannot see a way to get a spanner on it.
Has anybody done this gear box removal without removing the engine?
The manual says it can be done.
I really will appreciate any advice.

I Presume the bolts that you are having trouble with are the ones right up the top of the bellhousing right?

If so you may have to do what had to be done when replacing the clutch in a MK2 Escort. That is to place a jack under the engine crossmember

I have an 89 2.6 Rodeo and I am having the same problem, All I could think of doing was lifting the engine and box out, But I am not very keen on that idea. To much plumbing with A/C and Gas.
Doesnt help that in the Rodeo the greabox cross member doesnt

I would lower the gearbox crossmember if you can to get clearance not the engine one, a lot easier and not so tough on wires and hoses.
