My original EH 179 manual Premier sedan has a very annoying fault.

It will start and idle, but has no power unless floored when letting out clutch, will jerk and snatch when driven at suburban speeds unless full choke is applied, and really kangaroo hops when going from closed throttle to accelerate (again, unless apply nearly full choke).

It has fully recon 179 Stromberg carby (incl replacement throttle shaft), completely stock original 179 HP engine, manifolds off, cleaned and re-gasketed, heat riser valve freed up and working, fuel supply from pump checked OK, new plugs and leads, distributor stripped, mechanically OK and re-assembled with new points, condenser, rotor and cap. Timing checked OK.

What do the symptoms suggest is wrong please?

it's not getting any fuel - recheck your carb. by opening the choke you are restricting air to the point it is matching your limited fuel flow.

or your vacuum leak is massive and is too large for the fuel input to match. Vac leak is pretty easy to find. eg aerostart around joins

Or PCV valve is stuck open (if fitted) letting massive amounts of air into base of carb vacuum port.

Pull the air cleaner off, with the engine stopped operate the throttle whilst looking down the throat. You should see a squirt of fuel every time you pump the accelerator. If you don't then you either have something wrong with your accelerator pump or way
