LOL all true !I`m lucky enough to have 3 drive ways 2 of which go out the back and lots of carports in total under cover parking for 7 cars.
Like most car people I have to many cars to concentrate on and the one that deserves it gets the least done to it!
I have been picking away at the SS for over 5 years its about 80% done and will be original or very close to it, it has been off the road since 1990 . I bought it back in Nov 99 after it sat pulled down in a shed for 10 years from the previous owner (most of it was in boxes even the steering coloum and front springs )but it was all there including the original purchase papers and books.
I have put 95% of it back together and had any rust removed , the engine bay is painted and 253/4spd back in.

Hi Cloudy,

Its good to finally see some pics of the SS. It looks like its coming along nicely.

We mustnt live too far away from each other. Im in Elizabeth South.

My SS is a long way off being on the road as I havent even started it but hopefully one day we can get together for a cruise.

Do you know anyone with an Ultra Violet SS as that would be an awesome sight to see all 3 colour SSs cruising the streets of Adelaide.

I know someone with one of each colour but they live in Dubbo.

I pretty much have everything I need to do the resto but I have spent over $20,000 on the house in the last two years so the cars have just had to wait.

If you see me around in the GTS make sure you say hello. It might get confusing though as youre known as Cloudy and Im known as Stroudy. lol

I live in the Vale , I haven`t seen any ultra voilet ones in Adelaide for a long time the last being about 7 years ago for sale for $2500. Its a shame we never see any HQ SS`ss at car shows , I keep getting nuged by fellow club members to get mine on the road but its all time and money !!!

There was one at the 2004 All Monaro Day.

It was done up as a GTS and althought the bonnet was kept shut the door trims gave it away.

I asked the guy if it was actually an SS and he got quite defensive about it. Yes it was an SS he said but I think he thought I was bagging him out for not having a GTS. Wrong!!!

It wasnt at last years show though. Maybe I upset him. lol

I actually spotted the number plates (PRO HQ) off it for sale in the trading post this week. I wonder if hes restoring it back to SS specs.

A guy at work was offered a one owner all original SS late last year and he asked me whether they are worth buying. I told him to get back around there and snap it up or I would. He missed out!!!!

Heres a pic of the car from the Monaro show done up as a GTS.

Nice car , the clear parkers give it away also being a 72, mar 73 GTS sedans had amber, we had to knock back an ss for historic reg from our club as he had done it up as a GTS with a 350 in it, Historic does not allow replica cars and no 350 was optioned with the SS, 253 4spd only with 3:36 diff.
We try to be fairly strict with Historic and have annual inspections.
Plus original kept cars are worth more in the long run.
cheers Pieter

OMG, I remember that very Car! I lived in Kilburn at the Time a few years back now I seen this car about once or twice, It really caught my eye. (early 90s) It feels good to still see this car around. Now doubt about it, I recall it as the rear rims Are actually widened, With the Orig Rear GTS centers being welded onto a 15" rims. At least it DID! I remember it very well, As i Hadnt seen it done before and I looked into getting it done to my own GTS rims at the time a Few years later.
It still looks as sweet as it did back then.

Pieter,

Did you measure up the SS striped before you stripped the car?

I did have a lead on a guy who owns a decal business who had made up stripe sets but I have lost his email address.

Do you have the dimensions of the stripes?

Although I think it will be a long while before I need them as Ive got a couple of projects to complete between now and then.

regards
Darren

Hi Darren ,no mine has only the rear section left on , I will be looking at getting some made up in the future by an Adelaide company as I have access to an original NOS set , I will contact you down the track about them as my car is not ready for them yet and the boot lid piece has to be done from my original as this is the only piece missing from the NOS set. I wont give out dimensions from them but I will contact you at a later date about them.
cheers Pieter

I did have someone copy a set for me but they got lost in the mail and havent organised another tracing as it took her quite a while to do the original one for me.

I have a HQ parts manual which shows the SS in it but it is a small pics only. The guy across the road from me owns a Infa Red SS but it has been resprayed and the stripes dont look right to me. there dont seem to be many pics of SS HQS out there

Hi SS HQ guys. / Holden Gurus

this one has been bugging me for a while.

HQ SS guards V HQ GTS guards - are they the same????

now before you laugh, i spoke to a guy with 3 HQ sss in the W.A. wheat belt. the gap in the flute on the SS in approx 7 mm, where as the GTS is approx 10 mm. This particular guy pointed this difference to an elderly owner of another SS who had the car since 1980, the car had a repair in the mid eighties, replacing one guard.
The elderly owner was shocked when it was pointed out that the 2 guards on his car were slightly different. and never noticed in 20 years!
I should probably also point out, i am refering to Genuine guards.

Ok, so i took this with a grain of salt, until i spoke to a Garry in Dubbo, who has an SS parked next to a GTS in his stable.
I told him the story, he checked it out on his cars, and surprisingly down the phone came," yep, slightly different", SS guard to GTS guard.!

what do you guys think?????

That is a lot of cars to maintain. It must be expensive.
