Hi,
I am (finally) putting central locking in my LH Torana... However, the rear door locks are too stiff with age for one solenoid to handle. I expected this, so I started out by taking the entire mechanism off, and giving it a bit of a de-grease. It worked a little, but not a huge amount. There is actually a fairly heavy spring in there, and a bit of leverage, that makes it fairly tight.
Has anyone successfully "loosened" it up sufficient for a single aftermarket central locking solenoid to handle it?
ie - Am I wasting my time trying to free it up further, or do I persevere?
I am trying to put the solenoid on the horizontal bar... another thought is to try to put it on the vertical one (directly on the plunger), as this has less "gearing" effect from the levers, if this makes sense. (More movement.) My hands don't fit inside the door that well, though!
Appreciate any voices of experience.
Cheers, Jason.

Worst case you can buy stronger solenoids, or the cheats method I used in a HZ once was to use 2 solenoids on each door working together. |

Don't know whether they are the same or not, but for the front doors of a HZ Holden I simply bent the little round spring in a little to take some of the tension out of it and then aftermarket solenoids worked fine. Hope this helps.

Matt - I was actually about to post saying I'd discovered the little round spring, and that it all worked fine, but you'd beat me to it! Thanks anyhow - it was exactly what I ended up doing.
Commodorenut - I didn't realise you could get stronger solen
