Hey guys,

I've been thinking, getting a mate to put in a 8CYL-302 in my XE Spac 82.

I understand, coming from 6CYL I will atleast need gearbox, depending on what gearbox I might even need a tailshaft...

I really dunno what the 8CYL(302)'s go for, anyone know of a rough idea of one that has been recently recoed & in good condition - roughly the price?

Now, with the transmision - just thinking about it they're atleast half the price of an engine, depending what gearbox I go for. I don't no anything about gear box, let alone the engine! - i'm a quick learner, so if you explain to me some types of good tranmisions(like what are T5's, C10's etc. (or whatever those mean) - will be able to get everything fitted (once I get the engine & transmision - and possibly the tailshaft for no more then $200 through a mate.)

I want to get a really good condition, recently recoed 8CYL 302 and transmision(an tailshaft if I need it!)

Also, what would a good condition tailshaft go for (i'm after rough estimates, doesn't need to be exactly the price of one - but so I get a rough idea what i'm looking at!)

let the discussion begin! =)

Thanks.

Tailshafts the same if you have an auto. Around $1000-$1500 should get you everything you need for a conversion.

The above poster was me!

Also I have an auto gear box, so I don't need to buy a gear box & tailshaft - I just buy the engine and it will bolt straight up. correct?

Thanks.

The below refers to installing a manual transmission to 302.

Mate refer to posts on XF gearbox into xb. You will get probably enough information as the answers are the same as what you are after.
Late model XF came out with two versions of 5 speed (I

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

I currently have a AUTOMATIC on my XE 6CYL, and I plan on KEEPING the car Automatic.

I really hope I can keep the current AUTOMATIC in the XE when I put in the 302... will save me lots of money, but I guess I wouldn't h

Your car could be running either a C4 (that's what we call them in QLD though down south I think they call them something else) or a borg warner 45. If you are running a C4 you can keep that box but will have to swap the bell housing. If it's a borgy yo

xespac,

Pretty much Paul and others have said is right. Unless space is a problem, go and buy a running ZJ or ZK Fairlane for $500, that will provide you with a 302 that you can test drive, along with a C4 auto. The tailshaft will be the wrong length i
