Project X

XY Fairmont Beautiful “Creamy Brown” Vinyl roof, Hmmmm, Vinyl…. and the Duco is Light Green with the ever sexy crows feet, on every panel, Interior is cream but is really dirty, with a white perforated headlining, Bucket seats and fold down armrest, to fit your sixth passenger, that’s a bonus. Purchased for a mere $300.00 from one of our Preston store enquiries, see how it can pay to listen to your customers!

The Car has a bit of rust in the Sills, Lower Fenders, and Door corners on three doors, the right rear door has already been repaired and is ready to paint, the rear ¼ panels have also been done, it’s had a biff in the rear right tail lamp, and the boot has copped a bit of the brunt. It needs New Rubbers all round, and needs Paint, so if I go that far, I might as well get rid of the stupid Vinyl roof, Hmmmm, Vinyl…. My lovely wife has decided it should be a silver car, lucky I like silver hey? Add a Sticker kit, and Bonnet Lock Kit to be a GS/GT, or add a new EFI Performance scoop, and have a GTHO mock up 5.0L style, Hmmmm, 5.0L.

I found a mate that needs a 250 Motor, and he is a panel beater, so he has offered his good services for a fee of course, and remove the old motor/trans (It’s a favour if you ask me, I am not really into the 3 Speed Auto Column 6 Banger 250 anyway). So now its time to get some rust panels, a rubber kit, some chassis paint, recondition the dash pad, clean up the interior with a new carpet, re-trim the seats, and the door trims need attention too.

I have decided to fit a gutsy “XR8” engine I acquired from an EF Wreck, through a mate. I was able to scavenge the Loom, and computers, with the 4-speed Auto transmission, I can use the 4 Speed Auto with the original XY Speedo cable it just screws right into the Auto’s transducer, I can simply change the engine mounts, and the motor slips right in, a little mod to the trans mount, grab a XG V8 Diff, a set of reset XY V8 rear springs, tail shaft shortened to suit, and I’m off to get the wiring sorted by Castle electrics, to get the thing started cool hey?
