Hey Doc. I think I remember you mentioning something once before about EGR valves and my pinging problem, well since I put extractors and sports system on, I have tried everything including regraphing the electronic dizzy and retarding the timing as far as practically possible, but cannot stop it pinging at highway speeds, what I want to know is what was different about the pre-EGR motors that they didnt ping, and can I change anything so I can still run the extractors ,but with no pinging? it is a standard 202 with standard strommie carb, and being run on premium (98 octane) unleaded with lead replacement additive.thanks for any advice. Russ.

Also, I think it was you who also suggested that I by-pass the timing advance control solenoid and hook it up so that it has full advance in all gears and I think you said my fuel economy would improve, well I discovered that this had already been done by the previous owner, if I change it back will it alleviate the pinging? as I said before it is only since the extractors and sports system went on that the pinging started (obviously the EGR valve was disabled at that time, which seems to be the problem), and the solenoid by-pass job was done long before that, yet it never pinged. Thanks .Russ.

It's probably running too lean with the more efficient exhaust. Plus, HX/HZ engines are higher compression ratios than the earlier cars.

Hi Russ

The reason EGR systems were used on ADR27A engines was to reduce combustion temperatures. Very high combustion temperatures, like too much ignition advance is the one of the main causes of detonation (or pinging). I don’t mean engine coolant te
If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0
