Hi all,

Just after a little advice relating to the charcoal canister in a HJ.
The ute was built in '75, I am putting a black EFI 202 (VK) motor in it...

Can I legally ditch the char. canister due to the utes build date? What emissions stuff do I HAVE to keep?

Thanks all
Void

I'm not 100% sure but I think ADR26 was the charcoal cannister and this was in place earlier than 1975, so I'm guessing you need to retain it to comply.
The only way to be 100% sure is to contact the rego authorities in your state. Well worth the phone

Hi Guys.

Canister fitment is a bit of an anomoly.

ADR27 started in Aug '73 but this did not include a canister.

ADR27A began in July '76 & this relates to exhaust emissions. I've not seen the spec to know whether they make the canister manditory
If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0

Thanks guys..

Dr Terry, I am pretty much being lazy I guess - while cleaning up the engine bay it is simply easier to remove and chuck the cannister then relocate it.
If the RTA inspecters are going to check on the location of all these things then fa

You can get around the VK rules by only using the HJ block with all the EFI crank, etc., and as Terry says the canister does not harm performance so why bother? If you leave it off you leave yourself open to any road patrolman to pull you over and and iss
