Ive heard from a few people that the Strombergs use as much fuel as a 350 Holley, is this true? I wasn’t to sure, so I thought I would ask.

At the moment I have a Stromberg on a 253 with a mild cam which is in my HG panelvan. I’m planning on putting gas on the car only for the reason that it is a whole lot cheaper then petrol I don’t need a great deal of power as I just want the car as a cruiser, but what carby should I run with the system, the Stromberg or the holley. (I will still have petrol on the car)

At this moment I am only getting 220 k out of a full tank of fuel.

Hi HG,

I run two 253s. Silly me eh ? One is a 350 Holley/4speed/308diff the other a WW strom/trimatic/278. So i can compare quite a bit.

The 350Holley is fine at 110km. I can get 27MPG thats 9.6 ltr/100km on a highway run with city cycle being aroun

HG,

I have dual fuel in my J. I have never had a Holley but have heard if used on dual fuel, the gaskets dry out more than others and leak when you go back to petrol.
I had a WW on my 253/tri/3.08. I went to a 4 barrel manifold and Rochester with a

my first car (1983 VC SLE 253 trimatic) had a holley 450 on it.
i changed it to a strom, and only noticed that the fuel tank emptied quicker.
i then changed to a 308 rochester.
all carbs were tuned at a very reputable carby dyno tuner in newcastle.

That is why Holden fitted them standard to all VC-VL V8's, and also on HT-VB 308's. AFAIK the only major stuff ups (wrt economy/efficiency/power/longevity) in basic 253 and 308 design were the pollution red motor valley covers, single row timing chains an
