Hey guys I just need a little advice here. I've found a couple of streets away an old HQ Monaro on someone's front lawn thats just rusting away. It's been sitting there for ages (judging by how long the grass is underneath the car and the numbers on the number plate are near non-existant). I'm thinking of going to put an offer in (I realise he's probably got plans etc) but what should I say to try and convince him? When I was checkin it out from my car, it only had rust on drivers door. I'm 17 so I need a bit of help on how to pursue who him etc. Any help is much appreciated!

You want to have a serious look at other spots for rust before you buy. Anything can be fixed, but sometimes it may not be worth it eg if it is a standard Monaro with 6cyl column shift. Having said that, if it is cheap enough and complete it is still wort

I'm in Perth, the Monaro was on his front lawn so I didn't want to go and have a peak. We are inland a fair bit and by inspecting from my car (didn't wanna go snooping). No rust on front end, or left hand side only right, on the bottom of the 2 doors. On

Is it a 2 or 4 door Monaro? 4-doors use the same front doors as all other HQ's, and the back doors are the same as all other sedas except Statesmans. Coupe doors are the same as all other HQ/J/X coupe doors barring minor differences like intrusion bars.

I thought Anti-intrusion bars didn't make an appearance in Holdens until ½ way through the HZ range Byron?

That means, AFAIK, no 70's model Coupes had intrusion bars in the doors.

If they did, the doors must be ENORMOUSLY heavy. I had WB Stato doors

Not 100% sure, I've seen them in LE doors before. I've also wrecked plenty of LX hatches with intrusion bars, but these could be UC doors, although some of them were less than 10 years old at the time so who knows?? My point was the doors will fit, but ma

Agree with, and wasn't questioning, the interchangability Byron.

I find it interesting that you have seen Coupe doors with the bars in them. Car makers do some strange things at times...
