Hi Guys.

The QL prefix is HQ to HZ, with a high number like 856,354, it's almost certainly an HZ 202.

The M prefixed block is an EH 179, & being an HP casting was cast before Oct '64.

Dr Terry
If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0

Dr. Terry
(or anyone else)
would/could the rego dept use serial numbers to decide what level of pollution gear should be fitted, or for eg. could KeithHPUC just state that his is from a HQ?
(obviously i'm talking about fitting QL motors to non-pollutio

874xxx has a casting date of 2E8 (2/6/78), so 20,000 engines earlier than then should put you in early HZ, however some LX and UC Toranas were fitted with QL engines so it also could be either of these - I've seen 11/77 plated UC's and 2/78 plated LX's. O

I made a mistake above (trying to rely on memory again). xx876868 has casting number 30F7 ie HX. Therefore QL854354 will be HX or possibly LX. xx956815 is the engine with the 2E8 casting date.
