Hi guys,
Maybe someone could help me diagnose what's going on with my V8 HZ.
There's a slight knocking when driving about 50km/h that seems to come from the front left wheel area. The frequency seems to be in time with the wheel rotation. Sometimes it's worse and I can feel it a little through the steering wheel.
I jacked the wheel up and there was a bit of lateral movement, looking underneath it seemed that there was excessive movement in the steering idler arm bush (the idler arm was moving vertically half an inch when the road wheel was moved). I replaced the idler arm bush and it's better but the knocking is still there.
I thought it may be the wheel bearing although there didn't seem to be too much movement - I guess I would need to take the bearings out and inspect for wear to really know? There doesn't seem to be any uneven wear on the tyre (although this noise has only appeared recently).
Any advice on what the problem might be would be appreciated.
Regards Nicko.

Nicko, could possibly be the bearings, and yes u would have to remove them to check.if you are going to do this and you dont know when they were last replaced, change them anyway. Steering box may be slightly loose, check mountings.look at ball joints, loose |

Thanks Treborsenrab,
Yep, I guess I'll have to replace the bearings (they could do with it anyway) and if that doesn't fix it, move on to the next thing. I couldn't find any play in the suspension/shocks - I guess whatever it is will get worse and make

Dont wait for it to get worse man!,something may fall apart at 100 down the road! Easy for me to say,but get it up on a hoist and checked properly.nearly impossible in my opinion to check movement in,eg, control arms if car is on the ground. I once had a |

Fixed!
Put the spare wheel on and the problem went away.
It's nice when it's something simple for a change!
