gday,had a customer ask for a vk injected dizzy today...from my memory these were a different advance to the normal 6 cyl electronic dizzy?...what was the difference and did they also run a different marked harmonic balancer...and do you know if the part number on the housing was different and what it was?...cheers greg

Greg, EFI dizzy should be p/n 9230064720. Specifications are:

Centrifugal starts at -3 to +1 deg @ 1200-1300rpm. Intermediate 9-13 deg @ 2000-2100rpm. Maximum 16-20 deg @ 5000rpm.
Vacuum advance starts at 140-200 mmHg, ends at 300-330 mmHg with max ad

Well Byron has done far more than I would have come up with!

Basically the way I tell them apart is a blue motor one has a 6 degrees sticker on the vac advance can, and the VK EFI one has 12. This is referring to the static timing setting required for

Ok, let's throw another question in there...

If either dizzy is properly regraphed using a dyno on a red motor, do you get the same result? Does it matter which one you start with if you're only going to have it set up for your motor?

I had a better look at the parts manuals regarding the timing cover. It appears that all VK 6cyl engines have the same cover, part number ending in 669. The VC and VH have two listed - one with 8 degree markings and one with 12. The one with 12 degrees or

Hi Guys.

The different static timing & mechanical advance on VK EFI dissys is due to the cam profile. The cam has similar specs to an early 186 XU1.

A basic rule of ignition timing is the bigger the cam, the more initial (static) timing is required
If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0
