Hey All,
The 12 month race to resto the xw is almost over...wedding is in 4 weeks!
After 2 motors, a diff, a difficult panel shop and the usual gremlins we are down to correcting the interior color.
Originally a dusty faded blue, the doors have been retrimmed black and everything is fine....except the pinchweld!
Has anyone changed the color of this before? I want to move it to black...but on first test with rubber paint it starts to flake. Am i best to safe the headache, bite the bullet and just go buy new black pinchweld from the rubber shop?
All help appreciated!!

There is a special dye that can be used to recolour the pinch weld. More than likely your pinchweld peeled because it still had contaminates such as silicone from aromorall or something similar on it. You have a few choices.
1- buy some new pinch wel

Memory flash back, I think the stuff you need for prepping the plastic is called "prepsol" Just check with the paint place first.

Prepsol is for cleaning paint/metal before applying fresh paint. I don't know how it would go on pinchweld. The stuff I used on a console was called SEM Vinyl Prep. It is a very watery pink liquid (like dentist's drinks...) and removes old wax/armoural Edited by user Friday, 21 October 2005 9:42:40 AM(UTC)

With all the wedding plans...i did the pinchweld just this weekend. I tried prepsol on an old tatty one first and just rubbed the pinchweld with the prepsol on a rag. Worked great!
Then hung the pinchweld on the clothes line and sprayed with vinyl guar
