People,
Went from points ignition to electronic in my 308 skiboat.Brand new dizzy and coil.
Engine will not rev hard at all,you have to accelerate very gently and as soon as you nail it,engine backfires and dies.
The old dizzy had no vacuum advance whereas this one does.
Its all hooked up properly, timing is about +12.
Idles smooth as silk 98% of the time, just wont rev.
Anyone have any ideas before I head to a mechanic.
Carb is 600 holley which I havent touched.

Have you left the ballast resistor in place? These need 12V not 9V.
Is it a HEI coil? Very different transformer ratios.
Have you used HEI spark plugs? The spark gap should be 1.5mm.

I'll ask the same question as Byron but in a different way.

When the motor is running, or the ignition is in the on (not start) position, how many volts do you have at the coil?

If you have a ballast resistor in the system, your coil will only be ge
