I recently bought an 82' holden WB ute which has been resprayed and had a new tailgate fitted. In order to fit a tonneau cover we need to affix tarp clips along the tailgate as it doesn't have any. Does anyone know how we'd go about doing this? I went to the wreckers yesterday to chase up some hooks and he told me that it's near impossible to drill holes and fit hooks on these 'after-market' tailgates without damaging them... Thanks

Hooks are available from omst aftermarket stores these days. I know Super Cheap Auto have them, there are also a few people on ebay selling them (usually a full ute set though,

This is how I'd do it: Scour your local wreckers for a HQ-WB with tonneau clips and measure the exact locations of the holes. Put a strip of duct tape or the like on your ute's tailgate across the line of the holes and mark the holes onto the tape. Drill |

go to your local Holden dealer for the clips , you may find that they still stock them . I bought a set for my HX a couple of years ago so you might be lucky |

I had to do this to my Valiant ute a few years ago after re skinning the tailgate. Rare spares will sell you the hooks & pins separately. I used a very sharp centre punch to mark the holes. Then I drilled them. |

Hi mate
I have done this exact same thing to my HJ and it was after painting. I put my tarp on and marked with a texta roughly where they were to go, then measured the spacing so that it was even (used a calculator for this!), then I basically drilled

Byron's right about the aftermarket tailgates being thin. I've got one on my J and have a fairly tight flat tarp. Some of the press studs have pulled up slightly and there is slight buckling of the panel. How's that for thin. May as well be alfoil
