Gday guys my mother inlaw has a 1984 1.5 KB laser and it is going through oil, blowing smoke on start up only but soot is all over the rear hatch and suffer from pre-ignition after you turn it off. I havent delt with Lasers a lot and was wondering if this is a regular fault with them, or any type of regular problem that they may have? Any pointers on were to start would be great as the old laser doesnt seem to lack power at all so I am wondering if it is in the head or do they chew out oil rings and not compression rings ? All sugestions welcome as it is hard to get the car of her for any length of time ! Thanks for looking.

Two things to check first. The modulator on the auto and the valveguides. I'd do the modulator on the auto trans first.
My Mrs used to have one of these. She got ripped off (engine and auto) and all that was wrong was the modulator was stuffed. $6000 t |
