Why didn't you or the shop stamp the right numbers in? Keeps it original and should be legal as you are not changing the number.

It's ilegal to tamper with eng no's, so I'd assume that re-instating them would be considered tampering????

Who knows?? The official mind is a mysterious one. Guess technically you are right but whose gonna know unless you blab. And they would have to bear in mind the circumstances.
