Hey guys I'm considering buying a '88 VL, straight six (stock motor), auto, sedan off a friend. He's knocked out all the dents, it has no rust and he has primed it for a spray. I am considering buying it off him but first I have a few questions.

Firstly what are the price ranges to get her resprayed in that commodore black (sorry not sure what colour/code etc) from average to top quality paint job.

Secondly, as the old girls done 300,000 kilometers I was thinking engine rebuild is in order? How much would that cost on the stock six? Or would I be better putting and rb25 (not sure if this is right model) head on her? And how much would that cost.

Thirdly, does anyone have a clue on how much it would cost if I brought her into a specialist, as well as a boonger vl with manual gear box clutch etc. How much would the conversion cost? Although this isn't so much a need, rather a want.

Finally! How much would a new/good computer cost to get fitted and tuned?

I know it's alot to read but please try help. :) Thanks!!

paint jobs vary in prices starting from the hack job for $599 up to show quality jobs in the tens of thousands. for a just neat daily driver job id expect youd pay the $3000-4000 mark. depending on who and condition and what prep work needs to be done. an

Unless you really want a VL I wouldn't buy it. You can buy a mickey mouse VN SS for $4000 nowadays, and the best original VL 6cyl (non-turbo) going around will only cost you $4,000. A friend on mine just traded in a VL 5.0L that he bought new. It was perf

I agree with the guys to a degree. The price of a good VL is around the $2-$3 range. As a daily runner.

At 300,000 Km (watch that timing belt), a rebuild and a respray the $$$ are adding up. Probably around $8-11K, on a VL. Oh yeah u'll need good rubbe

The RB30 should be good for at least 500,000 k's before a rebuild is necessary IF it has been looked after with servicing (especially the cooling system and oil changes).

You are thinking of the right model with the head. Bolting on an RB25 head will i
