Continuing to work through things on the HQ... next on the list is the ignition switch. The chrome outer rim that provides the finger grips to turn the key, falls out. Just the chrome bit.

I kinda snaps back into place, and I can put the key in as normal, but it falls off when you turn the key.

I have had a bit of a look, and it seems to be held on by a series of pushed in sections around the rim. Even pushing these back in with a pair of plier and pushing it back on doesn't help.

So... my question is... can this be fixed/replaced by itself, or is it a one-piece unit including the whole barrel, and mine is effectively broken given that it falls off?

Common problem? The one on the Torana has been fine all these years...

Thanks for any help,
Jason.

Thanks Dave.

Next question then would be... is it likely to fail a QLD safety certificate if it's missing? Because that's easiest - leave it off until I get around to replacing it. Means changing ignition key, doesn't it? Or can a locksmith change t

Hi Jason,

No idea on the Qld RW requirements mate....I presume that it will be OK so long as the key won't come out in any position except off.

If you get a new barrel, a locksmith can reset the tumblers to suit your current key (or reset your doorl
