This is the case at my local Bunnings RIGHT NOW. It should apply to others also, and possibly other retailers.

From some date soon (early March I think) it will be illegal to sell equipment that plugs into GPO's (power points) that don't have the new half insulated active and neutral pins. My local Bunnings are selling off ANYTHING electrical that has the old plugs for 35% off marked price. This includes items such as $1000 Makita compound slide mitre saws, $800 Karcher high pressure washers, DeWalt tools etc. If you've had your eye on an expensive tool for a while go and ask now. Items in my local store include most of the arc and MIG welders, Triton and Makita power saws etc. On a $300 saw you save around $100. On a $1000 mitre saw you save $350. They are also selling off all of their Metabo gear REALLY cheap as it's too good a quality for Bunnings. I bought a 12V Impulse Metabo for $160 with 2 x batteries, metal gears, 60min charger with float charge - Made in Germany. This drill is the quality equivalent of USA Makita (black battery), Panasonic and DeWalt. They also have the 14.4V version for $200 and 18V for $300.

An opportunity like this may not happen that often as Dept. of Fair Trading Legislation like this doesn't happen too often. I'm not sure if this is just NSW or is it's Australia wide. Sensible retailers would just change the plug, but Bunnings don't work that way. Apparantly they want it all GONE by stocktake in february.

Just make sure that they don't start making them in China, as the Chinese cannot make quality batteries. Ask anyone who has bought a red battery Makita after being used to the US made units.
Oh, and I went to another local Bunnings today. All of the 'old

I've been through two Bosch and one Metabo electric drills with impact hammer.

My old 80's model B&D Industrial is still going like the day I purchased it. The industrial model power tools are

Festool is not uncommon in the panel or cabinet making industry. In fact any sanding industry. They make a lot of really good dust extraction sanding tools and have been doing so for far longer than it has been required to have the equipment in industry.
