The distributer in my 350 chev has seen out two engines, and is the original GM points item, Delco I think. It has become pretty sloppy in the centrifigal weights system, showing wear in pivot holes and marks under the rotor suggesting the weights might be binding on the underside of the rotor. Weights are also worn on edges where they make contact to cause advance of timing
I would appreciate advice on what type of distributor to buy, and whether I need to change the type of coil or plug leads. This is basically a stock engine similar to HG350. Maximum revs about 5000.
The engine is installed in a social ski boat, centre mount with dog clutch.
Your advice will be appreciated.

easiest option is GM Coil in Cap HEI, only needs a couple of wires hooked up to run, and the coil is intergrated into the cap.

will need new leads, but a set of leads is fairly cheap.

only down side is the cap is quite large, so if the engine is in

G'day hgvan,
I dont know where youare, but if you are in Sydney, give Fred a call at Dizzyfix, he rebuilds them for a living and does an excellent job, at a fraction of the cost of a new one, and they come back looking and working like new. Cheers. Russ.

The later chev hei distributor would be your best bet don't waste money on points dist and they are available new and they are not that dear to buy under $200.00 new,has internal coil and you would need new leads.

if it ain't broke we can improve it.
