G'day, I recently obtained a '71 LC Deluxe Torana, manual 4 cyl and was wondering whats the best ideas for a new engine? I was aiming for a 308 (or thereabouts) and was wondering if it was a simple swap over procedure with the necessary brackets and holes in place or will I have to make brackets and get an engineering certificate etc?

Whats the best engine to give the beast a bit of grunt? A '70's model holden 308?

Any help or advice is much appreciated, thank you!

early (LC/LJ/TA) torana 4 cylinders can not be converted to V8 or 6 cylinder, the whole front end is quite a bit shorter (including the subframe)

only way to do it is to unpick the whole subframe and attach one from a 6 or 8 cylinder. and get a new fro

Is this true? The engine bay is huge and a v8 wouldn't be much longer then a 4 cyl would it?

Ok on the subject of VL motors as they're relatively cheap, how are they when being installed into an LC Torana, do many mods and brackets need to be made?

All available as a kit from CRS or Mal Wood or V6 Conversions. The odd dob of weld, a bit of wiring, an engineer's report and away you go...

Cheers...Dave
