Hey guys I've just stripped back all the trim from my LC Torana and there is bulk surface rust. I plan to sand it back with a grinder as it won't need to be smooth. My question is what should I cover the bare metal with? Would some sort of tar be a good option? |

a better idea would be to use a cup brush ($10) mounted on your angle grinder...any paint would do. brush on tar/ body deadener would work but sometimes I find it can get sticky when its hot...so maybe some enamel paint or Killrust or something.

or at least thin it down with kero. I heated mine in a pot with kero and painted a brick planter box on the front of my house, it was a nice thin finish and it never leaked water again.

Paint it with rust convertor first (Fertan or similar).
Make sure your seams are all clean and dry and sealed...
Then apply Tectyl over the top. It won't dry out and crack like proofcoat can after a long time.
Cheers...Dave
