ive been looking at geting an electroplating kit from eplate.com.au for a while now, does anyone know much about these kits and if they are any good?

Yes I do, Had mine for aprox 18 mths and got it sorted...it is an art so practice makes perfect. I got the 25L NiCo kit, 25L soak cleaner (A MUST HAVE!!) and recently a 25L copper kit.

Very interesting product.
Ive been told that Chrome plateing weakens steel and you have to heat treatit it bring it back to its original strength.
Is this true and would this stuff cause the same problem?

Apparently it is true, I enquired about hard chroming a crankshaft and was told they would not do it because of that problem but I am not sure this stuff is true chrome so it may not be affected, ask the dealer.

Also about copper plating, the problem with chrome is it is porous so moisture penetrates it and rusts the metal underneath, so you need to copper plate it first to seal it, in the old days they used to copper plate then nickel plate sometimes they would

The price is a bit high unless you are going to be doing alot of chroming.
At roughly $1000 for the cleaning soulution copper kit and the nickel kit .

Johnperth is correct in regards to chrome rusting through, the breakdown of the Nico is Nickel, cobolt, alloy. The problem with straight nickel is that is dulls off quickley, with zinc plating the zinc is a sacrifical coating deaigned to corrode first bef
