Yet another question on a 9 inch conversion.
In a previous post i was told that commodore axels fit into a 9 inch diff aslong as you change the axel tube ends to comodore units.
Now my dumb question is will 10 bolt axels fit aswell since they are both 28spline axels?
I was looking at a yank site that sells new 9inch housings minus the axel tubes.
They are made to take a 3inch O.D axel tube and a 10 bolt tube is just over 3inch so my line of thinking is to have the 10bolt tube turned down to 3inch on a lathe and then fit it to the new housing with the added advantage of having the mounting brakets allready in place.

Is any of this possible or am i just blowing steam out of my arse????

most 9" conversions done to holdens use 10 bolt axles and tubes as far as i am aware, this way you dont need new mounts or anything.

Yes they are the same spline as a 28 spline 9". Problem is 9" diffs have different length axles, and 10-bolts have both axles the same length. If you use 10-bolt axles the 9" yoke will be offset to one side. However, like a 9" a VN Borg Warner diff has di

Thanks for that Dylan.
Everyone who mentions conversions say that you have o weld the holden mounts on to the diff.
If its a matter of just swaping axel tubes and welding the upper control arm mounts onto the housing it siplfies things.

When it is mentioned that the 10 bolt axles being of the same length and run with a 9 inch center will cause the yoke to run off center what happens with the yoke of a 10 bolt, if the axles are the same length does the yoke run off center and if not, how?

Simply due to the design of the diff. Most GM diffs seem to be built this way - probably done to keep the axles the same on both sides. Ford and Borg Warner diffs have different axles on each side - why I don't know.
How, simple. The sun gears on the 9"

Hi Guys.

The answer is even more obvious than that.

If you get under any Holden (48 to WB) & measure where the tailshaft is, you will find that the tailshaft (& the floor hump, towards the rear) are off centre, by around 1 inch.

The difference be

So for a one toner would it be best to run a standard ford 9" housing, fit HQ-WB spring saddles , VN axle housing ends,VN axles and is it possible to restud them to HQ-WB pattern(I want to run GTS rims) or is this not recommended and then run VN disc brak

I know in the utes atleast that a nine inch conversion using Holden Salisbury tubes and axles works well and while the tailshaft is offset to one side, there aren't any clearances issues.
If you modify your original axles and a use a Commodore disc set-u

Yes. You could also easily get the VN axle's stud pattern changed to 4.75" PCD. You would probably find that the discs will still fit over the studs - it is only 0.65mm PCD difference. Check out the measurements and locations of bearings first, but I beli
