is there anything you can do with hq sender units and gauge's ,iv had my hq for 17 years and im allways having problems not knowing how much full iv got, the fuel gauge was rebuilt by vdo a few years ago but didnt make that much of a difference,had a new sender put into the tank and it ran out of fuel on 1/4 and when going around corners the gauge nedel goes down and back up, is there anything you can do about this problem to fix it once and for all.

Take you gauge and sender to VDO or another instrument repair place and get tham matched to each other.

I'm pretty sure there are several types of senders for HQ Holdens and if the wrong one has been put in you will get dodgy readings.

There are 2 sets they have to be matched to work properly. Check the colour of the needles. If red swap for an orange one if orange swap for a red one. See if that helps.

Also, if you have the sender out of the car, earth it and move the sender and watch the gauge move accordingly.

This can save some time as you can tell quickly if the gauge and the sender are a match.

Rare Spares have some brand new HQ fuel sender units coming very soon.There are two types so you need to check what is in your car.Obviously a full tank should read full and if you can estimate how far you can drive on a full tank then at half that distan
